Gyubang (규방) means “boudoir” in Korean and was the exclusive space for women during the Joseon dynasty (1392-1897). In Gyubang, women engaged in activities such as making clothes and creating decorative items from leftover fabrics. This allowed women to express their creativity, share stories, and ultimately shape their own artistic and cultural identities. Gyubang Arts played a central role in the daily lives of women in Korean society.

Rooted in Korean gyubang traditions, my work combines function and beauty while adapting traditional techniques for today. Each piece is entirely handmade and hand-sewn, reflecting the care and time central to this practice.

I work with natural materials such as silk and linen, all sourced from Korea, honoring both the origins of the craft and its materials. Through slow, detailed stitching and traditional methods, each piece carries forward the quiet, enduring qualities of gyubang textile arts.

These hand-sewn pincushions are inspired by traditional Korean gyubang craft and jogakbo (patchwork). Made from silk and natural fibers, each piece features carefully joined fabric segments and precise stitching, forming a soft, rounded shape with a floral-like pattern. Both functional and decorative, they bring color, texture, and a sense of quiet craftsmanship to everyday sewing tools.
